Yikes. Be prepared to serve tasteless meals.

I have heard Jamie Oliver's name absolutely everywhere. I've never actually looked at a recipe by him but I honestly thought he was well loved and totally knew what he was doing in the kitchen.

I was horribly misled.

The recipes in this book have approx 5-6 ingredients each. Okay, simple enough. But that just doesn't WORK well to create mind blasting tastes to eat or serve to friends and family. Don't get me wrong. A 6 ingredient recipe is definitely welcome but this book is FILLED with them. And it calls for items that I don't readily have. Like canned potatoes?? Is this common in North America? There are a lot of prepared items used but I would much rather make them by hand.

There are barely any herbs or spices used in the recipes. Everything sounds so horribly bland. As I flipped through the book, I was already thinking of adjustments I would need to make. I can make a couple here and there but if every recipe comes across as subpar, I know that this type of cookbook is not meant for me.

I appreciate bold flavors and tastes. I come from an ethnic family but I cook American, Italian, Asian, South Asian.

This book is truly meant for people that are beginners in the kitchen who want to make lovely sounding dishes that taste absolutely beginners level. That's not a horrible thing. Everyone has to start from somewhere. But this is not what I expected at all. I'm quite shocked at the quality of recipes because Jamie Oliver is such a well known name.

I really tried hard to like this book, I watched the series and it looked as though there were some fantastic and quick ideas in here. This is the first time I've bought a Jamie Oliver book, although I've watched some of his programs over the years.

I've now tried a handful of different recipes in here and every single one of them has been a disappointment. Either lacking flavour when I follow the quantities provided, or in the instance of the flatbread, it was baking powder overkill and I couldn't taste anything else.

Also, just to point out cooking a big piece of meat directly on the shelf in your oven does not mean its a "one pan meal" that is now a pan and my whole oven I'd need to clean, so no thank you.

There are also far too many variations of the same dish, I didn't need 5 different shakshuka recipes, and 15 recipes using fresh lasagne sheets.

I found the madras meatballs were inventive, but then in practice; the rice was incredibly bland because there wasn't any seasoning or flavours for it to soak in, and the suggestion was 4 whole chillies, but I ended up just binning the chillies rather than putting them on my plate because they were an unpleasant heat with bland rice.

Ich habe fast alle Jamie Oliver Kochbücher aber das "One" ist nicht zu empfehlen. Die Gerichte sind eher langweilig und ich musste suchen um ein Gericht zu finden was ich nachkochen wollte. Sonst ist Jamie Oliver immer eine gute Adresse für interessante Kochbücher. Am Besten finde ich sein erstes Buch: The naked chef"

The book arrived packaging was perfect, however it has what it looks like a strap mark around the top of the book all the way around. Which doesn’t look nice considering it’s supposed to be a new book to give to a friend.

Very disappointed in this book.

Size of print totally impracticable, if you are following the recipe whilst cooking you don't stand a chance of just glazing back over to where you are - and I have 'good' eyes!!!!

I lost interest in looking at the book as it did not make for easy reading, what I did look at had a lot of white space around it so could have easily gone up in font size, very bad print layout

Colour of print should also be darker to enable ease of read

Lesson learnt not to buy online before looking at it before hand

Unfortunately we don't use fresh pasta.. So many recipes in the book are only one pot due to adding fresh pasta to dishes..

I was really looking forward to trying out these recipes. I was quickly disappointed. The instructions are awful!! They assume that you are an experienced cook, and that you guess what he means. Half of the recipes need fresh pasta, which no-one has in their cupboard. There are loads of other ingredients that will only be available to buy in Waitrose perhaps?! Certainly not in Tesco. Absolute waste of money.
