Compelling Crime fiction

This is the first of the Detective Alyssa Wyatt series and the first time I’ve read this author. It’s a dark suspense with intense subject matter such as murder, kidnapping, torture, abuse and downright evil. It’s a crime mystery set in the Albuquerque area.
Alyssa and her team are on a case involving a missing wife which quickly escalated to a much bigger investigation going back years. Alyssa puts in long hours and is fortunate to have a supportive husband and two teens. This case however will become personal and put them all at risk. The characters are realistic and interesting.
The plot and perpetrator are quite compelling and distinct. I raced through the book with horror at the magnitude of diabolical cruelty people are capable of inflicting on others. The clues to discovering the perpetrator are there if you pay attention. I did figure some of the twists out but that in no way kept me from reading on and being aghast at the outcome.
I would certainly recommend to those who enjoy police procedurals and crime fiction. An author and series I intend to follow. A strong 4.5 star read for me!

What a cracking start to a series. I shall definitely be continuing. The story is very believable, as too are the characters. I read this in two sittings as the story consumes every bit of you. Intense, terrifying and utterly addictive.

Oh, my gosh! What a great book! One of the best I've read in a long time. It was very hard to put down. The characters felt real and the story had some twists that were unexpected. Even though you kind of new who did it, I thought the ending was very suspenseful. Personally, I think it would make a great movie as long as it didn't deviate from the story. I will definitely read more books by this author.

A nicely paced novel. If you enjoy a good procedural novel, you will enjoy this book. I have never been one to give away the story like other reviewers. Just my impressions.

This was a captivating read - had me interested from the first page to the last. Alyssa Wyatt is a savvy detective with a family that she fiercely protects. I would highly recommend this book. It's highly graphic but an entertaining read.

...plot as original as this one. I will read more of Cox just to see if she can top herself in that category. Liked this a lot. Took me a while to accept the twist but it proved to be a good one.

All His Pretty Girls by Charly Cox is such an intense read. A terrifying serial killer is stalking a community. For Detective Alyssa Wyatt the case hits far too close to home. When a kidnapped woman turns up dead, it becomes personal. She feels she has failed this woman and her failure to find her alive eats away at her. It makes her more determined to catch whoever is responsible for the murders that have taken place and make sure they never kill again. But this case will have devastating consequences for Alyssa and her family.

Charly Cox really did make me fear for her characters as I was reading this book. She managed to create such an intense atmosphere in her writing. I was desperately hoping that the victims of the criminal in her novel would find a means of escape. Charly Cox did make these scenes feel very claustrophobic, and I almost couldn’t bear to read on, but I knew I had to.

I really liked Alyssa. I think it did take me some time to warm to her, when I first started reading but she gradually grew on me. She is a character who has suffered in the past as well. Her brother, Timmy, disappeared when they were only children, and she has continuously blamed herself for her brother’s disappearance. He was found dead, but his kidnapper was never identified. I suspect that this part of the plot may feed into later books in the series and I’m hoping that there is going to be another book.

The plot moves along at an extremely fast pace. As the reader, you can sense the clock ticking down as the police work hard to apprehend the killer, and in the final chapters, Charly Cox really does turn the tension up a notch.

The twists that come in this book are hard-hitting, and one blew my mind. You won’t believe what is happening when it finally dawns on you. I thought it was so clever how Charly managed to weave this into her plot, but as I looked back, I could see that there were hints and signs there. It was very cleverly done, and I am still reeling from it as I am writing this review.

If I could sum of All His Pretty Girls in just a few words they would be; intense, dark, haunting and terrifying. If you enjoy crime fiction with a darker edge, then this is a book for you. I can’t wait to see where Charly takes us next.
