a bit boring reading

I expected a lot more from this story. maybe it was the positive reviews that fooled me, instead I found the reading flat and without jolts.
The plot is quite surreal and when I understood the point of the situation everything became clear, all too clear.
It's a suspense thriller but I didn't feel the suspense element at all and I would have something to object to the thriller too.
It was a boring and predictable reading to me, with characters without depth and with obvious dialogues. I understood how it would end after just a few pages.
That's a big no for me.

I always judge a book by its cover. The Cottage really made me take this off the shelf and yes it delivered!

I believe it's so important to have a beautiful cover that depicts the story, the scene is set and I'm able to look at the cover several times during my reading time.

It's a perfect creepy scene, immensely picturesque, i saw and felt everything in the cottage and the haunting woods surrounding it. Also the idea of the rural nearby village was brilliant.

Sometimes i find it difficult to get into the characters' eyes when written in third person but Lisa Stone nailed it with quite a few characters' viewpoints to take in.

This is creepiness at its best. Lisa Stone is an excellent writer who allowed me to read with such ease as she delivered absolute flow without any need for backtracking. The book is solid throughout, totally
un-put-downable!

It's most mysterious and i did wonder what its conclusion would be. The mystery is stretched out throughout most of the book with nothing rushed keeping me in suspense.

I'm not a dog fan myself but Tinder played a most important part, the story may not have worked as well without him.

The main character Jan is most likeable as is Ian whose chapters run parallel. The rest of the characters i didn't like at all.

The suggested topics at the end of the book for readers' discussion were essential to help reflect on the book's model.

Although the ending was very disappointing for me, it would've been much worse had the police done more to investigate.

I just loved the train ride of creepiness and suspense that ran through most of the book before it got to the reveal, a reveal that just didn't appeal to me.

The Cottage itself did it for me.

Excellent writer with a book that's highly recommended!

Well written but don’t read this book if you have suffered still birth or miscarriage. Should have come with a trigger warning. I did find it hard going re story line because of content that upset me personally but it was well written and a quick read.

It is not unusual for the marketing blurb to overpromise, but underdeliver. However, this is one of those fairly rare occasions when the official synopsis does the opposite and underplays the merits of the book. That said, it would also be fair to say that there are some significant elements of this story that rely on the reader being prepared to to suspend disbelief and allow the author some artistic licence. With that proviso, Lisa Stone has delivered a thoroughly engaging suspense thriller that is also regularly thought-provoking.

There are essentially two alternating strands to the narrative. In the one strand there is Jan Hamlin, a woman who has been through some troubling times and has decided to rent a secluded cottage while she tries to pull herself back together. The other relates to Ian & Emma Jennings, a young married couple desperate to start a family. The storylines of the two sets of protagonists appear to be entirely unrelated, though it will not be too much of a spoiler to suggest that the reader will anticipate them becoming relevant to one another at some point - because those are the rules and that is just how these things work! It is left to the skill of the writer to weave these strands together in a manner that is not just captivating, but also plausible and acceptable to the reader's sense of authenticity. In this instance Lisa Stone makes a pretty good job of it.

Very often, the stories that draw the audience in most successfully and that create the most palpable tension are those that you can actually envisage happening in reality. That is certainly the case with "The Cottage". For the sake of avoiding spoilers I will not go into detail, just suffice to say that there are themes fundamental to this plot that are based on real-life happenings and, as such, are all the more disturbing. This one is well worth adding to your reading list.

This is such a great story and id highly recommend getting this book either as a gift or for yourself. I'm not going to give anything away about it as it would ruin it for the next person who wants to read these books

Book was a total surprise and did not expect the storyline. I couldn’t put the book down. I would buy more from this author. Very different read from her Cathy Class books. I enjoyed this book and have recommended to friends.

I enjoyed this novel. It is nicely written and keeps the reader involved from the outset through to the final twist. Jan is a credible character, with whom it is not difficult to share her feelings, even though at times she is infuriatingly naive. Skilfully, Lisa Stone interweaves the two apparently separate stories, and as the connections increase so too does the tension as to the outcome. It is not a great novel, indeed has no pretensions to be so. Nonetheless. it is a compelling read and well able to hold its own in a very competitive market.
