Tobias Howthorne

4/5⭐️
This boll was good. I likes the many riddles and games this book contains. The writing was easy to read but in the same time great. The chapters were short and refreshing.
Something I didn’t like about the book though was that I felt like it focused more about the riddles and games then the emotions of the characters. I mean the book didn’t talk about the emotions of the character so much. That can be a good or bad thing, but I personally would prefer more emotions from the characters.
I would recommend this book in general, but I would recommend this book a little bit extra if you are I person who likes riddles and puzzles or if you are into open and thrilling endings that keeps you holding your breath to know what comes next.

4,0 su 5 stelle maybe book two will tie this together better

This book kept me hanging on to every last clue until the end. then it ended with no real answers and no real hanger in my opinion either. It’s almost like the door was half way closed just to try jumping through another door, given it was a masterfully written book of entertaining clues. It also just inserted knowledge by a key player when it was useful not exactly built in very well to the story line. I give it a four hoping book two satisfies the original mystery a bit better than the first without opening an unrelated can of worms.

4,0 su 5 stelle What a pleasent suprise

Where to start, there were things that I loved and a few that I didn't stand for. But what a ride it was!
Fast-paced, entertaining, full of twists and turns! I say a delight!
I bought this book on an impulse buy, saw the cover, and I just added it to the cart! I regret most impulse buys, but not this one!
Maybe that's why I liked it! I went in blind, didn't read much about it, wasn't entirely sure what to expect, and it turns out I ended up pleasantly surprised. Especially with that ending, I did not see that coming!

I'm still astonished at how the mystery, circling the whole inheritance, was developed. As soon as we got some answers, it would unlock yet more questions. Therefore made it a super-fast read, as I couldn't put it down as I just needed answers!
Did I get them all? No! But that's what made it so damn compelling!

Surprisingly, I also liked all the characters! They all had unique qualities, strong personalities, which provided for some fun dialogues!
Yes, there is somewhat of a love triangle, unfortunately. And, yes, there is an instant love/connection vibe. I also don't care for that kind of plot, but it wasn't that off-putting as I found it quite entertaining and ended up expressing my judgment usually out loud to me, myself, and I.

I kept waiting for my favorite Hawthorn (Grayson, obviously! He had some serious, Mr.Darcy vibes going on) to make an appearance so that I could smile and blush towards the pages like spring was just around the corner.

Let me tell you that I annotated the hell of out this book! Oh, the good times!
It isn't a book that will change your outlook on life or leave a mark, but it will keep you one hundred percent entertained.

Also, let me point out the fact that I bought it thinking it was a duology. Well, I was wrong, but what's new?! It's a trilogy and, now I'll have to wait to have some much-needed closure. Needless to say that I hate waiting! The not knowing factor of it all drives me insane, and I can't even buy the second book because here it's only available in an awful paperback version, with all due respect to the person who designed it.
I CAN ALREADY FEEL THE ANXIETY KICKING IN.

Additionally, I would like to say that I want to start reading more books like this, going in, oblivious of what the story is that way, I might end up at least a tiny bit surprised and delighted every time!

4,0 su 5 stelle Perfect escapism!

The Inheritance Games is the first book in a trilogy following Avery Grambs who has inherited a billion dollar fortune of a man she has never even met before. Averys life is turned upside down and inside out from the life she is used to living. After her mother's death, Avery has been living between her car and her sisters apartment due to not getting along with her sisters boyfriend. When she gets told she's needed to attend the reading of the will, her and her sister Libby fly to Texas and its revealed she's now the heiress of a multi billion dollar inheritance. The catch is she's to live in the sprawling mansion for 12 months constantly and must allow the family of the late Tobias Hawthorne to reside there too. The house itself is ginormous with secret passageways, different wings, a bowling alley, theatre, library's etc and Avery can't believe its all been left to her by someone she's never met. The reading of the will leaves her and the four grandsons of Tobias Hawthorne with a letter from Tobias with a cryptic message. Can they solve his final puzzle to them and who can Avery trust? This was such a good read that I bought book two and three to read back to back. This is the oerfect escapism for me right now and Ice enjoyed the puzzles the secrets and especially the house in this book.

4,0 su 5 stelle I mean I liked it but …

Some things were just too repetitive. I just don’t love the authors style. But the idea is fun and I’ll read the rest. I wasn’t on the edge of my seat tho and the love triangles were unfulfilling. I don’t have a whole lot of connection to any of the characters. It’s clean tho, and I appreciate that.

4,0 su 5 stelle Don't be sorry, be worthy of it.

So, the truth is there were moments when I wanted to give this book far more than five stars. The premise and the characters were so loamy with potential, I swallowed it whole in a matter of hours. The narrative energy did not let up. The author (this is the first book I've read from her, but it's obvious she's been doing this for a while) is also a cognitive scientist and it shows. Not that the book is rife with terms but that the story feels crafted as a series of increasing dopamine detonations that work masterfully to bewitch the reader.

Now. Onto the characters. A future actuarial science major thrust into the playground of four accomplished, yet destructive young billionaire brothers. Seriously, how much more compelling can you get from the word go? So, here's where I ask more from this book because I feel like I was set up for more. Thrillingly so. I've given five stars to other books and films that didn't engage and engross me near as much as this one did but I docked a star here because it lifted my expectations way above that of other books and films. I think it's possible the author was trying to juggle too many (worthy) variables here. Xander, I think, was the least-compelling of the brothers. Lanky, affable and explosive (more literally), this 'genius' felt a little insert here. Nash, with his messianic complex, could have delivered more with Libby's storyline (beautiful asides in the beginning between these two characters created vapors of promise that never congealed). Also, his nickname for Alisa was less endearing and gave (me) a more creepy, okay, dude, get-over-it vibe. Shirtless, scarred, nickname-generating Jameson was intriguing, sizzling with all kinds of potential that was never fully realized for me. Grayson. Suit-wearing, rippled-back, perfumed-with power, toddler streaker Grayson. To channel the wordplay of the lovable (and underdeveloped) Max, cheese and frapping rice. Here was a character who commanded my attention from his first appearance. And here was a character who was utterly shortchanged, in my opinion, as far-less absorbing theatrics with Thea, Rebecca and Emily took center stage in the last quarter of the book. The sequence with the green dress and the braided hair at the gala took the brewing potentials hurtling toward a heady boiling point in the dignified and electric scene between Avery and Gray at the foundation and plunged it into distasteful mind-fax territory.

The end was way too trap-upon-trap, riddle-upon-riddle. And not in a satisfying way. A truly great mystery weaves elements from the beginning that pierce the mind of the narrator (and, hence, the reader) with clarity during the resolution (see Lorena Hughes's The Sisters of Alameda Street). This denoument just introduced more and more trap doors and secret tunnels that, at times, felt like the author was simply spinning passages in Hawthorne House on a series of whims. I wanted more from this. Because I felt set up to want more. From the old man's beyond-the-grave attempt to move two of his grandsons away from the zero-sum tendencies he encouraged since their babyhoods, to the crackling chemistry between Avery and Gray undercut and underserved by what, I felt, devolved somewhat into a soapy, distended bloat of too much and not enough at the purported conclusion.

This has obviously been set up to work as a series. And will I be pre-ordering the next mother-faxer the minute it's available? Um, *yes.* So, in the bare-bones, commercial sense, mission accomplished. But I will be hoping for more from the characters and the situations. Because I fully believe the mind that sponsored this opening salvo is exquisitely-capable of delivering.

4,0 su 5 stelle A good YA mystery

This book was super easy to read, the chapters were quite short and while I thought it was slow to start, things picked up more as it went on. This book could be quite repetitive in places.

I initially liked Jameson, but Grayson grew on me quite a bit. Avery was an interesting main character, and I did like her. I'm personally not keen on a love triangle, but this one is a bit of a non-starter to be honest.

That Tobias Hawthorne knows how to play a game though, I was so interested to know where it would lead them. I'm left with more questions than I have answers though. Overall, a good book.
