Un-Do It! contains some amazing insights and revelations on diet and health that Dr. Ornish has been involved with, or, has been completed by peers that should be known by the world. This includes cardiovascular disease, cancers, metabolic syndrome, etc.

That is the first 80 - 90 pages. Then, there's the section on exercise -- very little science in this portion of the book in comparison and key points such as the affects of resistance exercise on GH and how one should fast or train on an empty stomach could be brought out. IMHO, if you're going to train then try to get the best out of your exercise just like your diet.

Then, some things about meditation, stress, etc. Important, yes...science has proven stress and lack of sleep does raise cortisol levels and has a negative impact on our health. Good information, but I learned more about the science and biology of each of these during a podcast from Dr. Kim Williams, MD/Cardiologist, than the book which I felt Anne Ornish wrote. IMHO, let the people with the science background making the recommendations write this information.

Finally, over 200 pages of food and beverage information -- recipes, stocking your kitchen, etc. Each recipe takes at least two pages and wondering if they could have saved space and condensed things a bit and again focused on the science earlier in the book.

The first part of the book, as noted, is excellent and I have parts highlighted and/or marked for reference. IMHO, this book or Dr. Joel Fuhrman's contain some of the most cutting edge information on diet, health and longevity around. (And Fuhrman packs up to two recipes per page...)

read only 25% by now. It gives bigger picture of what we need from our food. Veg, Non-veg, dairy based items; what is good/bad about these diets and why.
Tells about the science behind weight gain. Helps understand fundamentals of digestive system, body’s nutritional requirements, how bad diets and eating habits in combination with lack of physical exercise cause killer diseases- diabetes, heart disease, cancers, over a period of time.
I don’t like diet books and picked it only because my brother praised it a lot and shared some very interesting information from this book.
Now I feel blessed to have come across it!

What I did not like:
some unnecessary details/talks about non-core stuff which I think, is wasteful of time and could have been avoided.
Some repetitive phrases like ‘the diet and lifestyle changes as explained in this book…’ are a bit annoying.

Dr. Dean Ornish gives you a totally different way to look at your diet, not based on calorie intake or losing weight but based on what the food does either to your body or for your body at the cellular level and how you can get rid of chronic illness by changing what you eat.

This book was suggested to me by a cardiologist. The first half of the book convinced me that yes, everything we eat impacts our health, for better or worse. I made a short list of foods or ingredients I was willing to eliminate from my diet. I was a believer. But when I got to the recipe part, I thought, I won't eat any of that stuff. I appreciate the section that lists healthy prepared foods available at the grocery store, such as Amy's frozen meals. I enjoy eating. I look forward to my meals. Some meals are even a treat. I would feel too deprived if I replaced foods I enjoy with foods that leave me cold. Perhaps I am in denial. Ok, I AM in denial. I'll make smaller changes. I can reduce my intake of red meat. I will not replace meat with fish. I will try to reduce my butter usage. I will add fiber to my diet. But no, I cannot imagine following the meal plan.
That being said, this is a most excellent book and excellent resource. Job well done by the Ornishes.

I would be careful about embarking on this diet. I am a 68 year old physician with some atherosclerosis, despite low risk factors: non smoker, non diabetic, no hypertension, fit (BMI 21), negative family history, normal blood pressure, very regular exercise, low fat diet, LDL<100. I decided to give this diet a try and within 8 weeks lost a lot of weight and became very gaunt (BMI 19 and falling), despite consuming 80 grams of protein and 2800+ calories per day. My friends started asking me what was wrong with me and I also developed the skin lesions noted in the picture--actinic purpura.
I went off the diet and within 8 weeks returned to my normal body weight and the actinic purpura went away, and have not returned in 5 months.
This diet might be a good idea if you are obese but I would be careful if you are not obese. Also, there is a lot of medical literature suggesting that the best approach to atherosclerosis may be aggressive management of your LDL level to very low levels----talk to your health care provider.

I'm not sure about the accuracy of the cover---"REVERSE MOST CHRONIC DISEASES"----most? That seems like a real stretch.
2 stars because the recipes are tasty.

This book has helped change my life. By following its advice, especially the dietary recommendations, I’ve already relieved myself of knee pain and general inflammation in my body. Last year my cholesterol was high and I’ve been prediabetic for at least four years. After 4 weeks of a vegan diet with minimal added walking, my cholesterol has gone from 210 to 153 and my A1c from 6 to 5.4. And after 6 weeks, I’ve lost 14 pounds and feel like a new person with much more energy.
The four basic tenets of the book make sense and are uplifting, and I enjoy reading the science behind the recommendations in the book. However, I find the recipes to be disappointing and to rely too much on soy products. I’m still looking for a good whole foods cookbook to help support me in my new vegan endeavor.

I've been following the Whole Foods, Plant Based lifestyle doctors for a few months now. I ran across a podcast of Dr. and Mrs. Ornish recently and loved what I heard. This prompted me to buy the book. I have to say now that the WFPB lifestyle has been tremendous in reversing and healing issues I've had for years.

The book is packed with great information on eating, moving, de-stressing, and loving. Plain and simple advice for living a healthy life. Lots of great recipes, too. There is a lot of scientific information and studies presented that really backs up this lifestyle.

The only issue I have is that the book continuously promotes their program. This would be a bad thing, but there are no venues anywhere close to where I live (mid-north Tennessee). Insurance may cover their program, but I doubt my insurance will pay for me to travel somewhere distant to take it. With it promoting the benefits of the program, I feel I am missing out; that I'm only getting partial information since I can't participate in the program. Especially with the group benefits. And, there wasn't any contact information on their site for those of us wanting to ask questions about it; only for booking.

While I love the book, I think I would prefer less promoting of the program and keep the book to what you can do from the book.
