Spedizione lampo!
Fabulous, to be able to write music which is whimsical, lyrical and develops a aura of fantasy.
I am not surprised but am disappointed that the RPO didn't include the tap dancing (Steve Macrae, on the DYVD) sounds at the Mad Hatters Tea Party , so the highlight for me is the waltz, The Flower Garden. . It's modern, it's light and leaves Ravel's La Valse in the cemetery.
Fats delivery in very cateful packaging. Thank you.
Wonderful music in a sort of Neo-Romantic vein. Very visual in tone and is actually a score for a ballet of the same name and this suite is culled from that ballet. I'll either buy or try to rent the dvd of the ballet to see a complete performance of the work. The sound of the recording is excellent. Very 'alive' and clear and makes good use of a home theaters sounds system. New music, a new composer (at least to me) worth listening to and exploring.
Saw the ballet on a live stream and was captivated by the music which really catches the mood of this timeless story. The recurring themes are memorable and the contrast between light-hearted and more serious is portrayed well. The music is right for the time and should take its place in the ballet repetoire long into the future.
Loved it since I first saw it on tv, it is now one of my favourites. Colourful, sumptuous and full of humour it is a tour de force of the balletic art form. Imaginatively realised by a genius of a designer, the whole essence of the story has been captured. A wonderful wonderland experience.
I found the music here to be a little dull. It was very samey and there wasn't much distinction at all between the tracks. Probably best suited only when the dance is occurring during it. Haven't listened to it many times, but it came quickly and was packaged well.
