I ordered this book even though there were no reviews on it yet. That's always taking a chance since many of the Atlantis books are very well written and others not so much. This book is definitely well written and for the most part everyone is in character. The interaction between the characters is good and the pairings atypical, also good. The story isn't exactly fast moving and I did skim through some of the slower parts but no doubt the writer has a nice writing style. The adventure did pick up toward the end but much of it was somewhat slow paced. The thing I really didn't like (and the reason for only 3 stars) is that the author spent a large portion of the book having the characters tell each other stories while they were waiting around for things to happen. These stories gave background on several of the characters. But the stories, in my opinion, didn't necessarily ring true to the characters that we learned about in the show. First, the story is written around the second season where supposedly no one knows that Sheppard even has a family (episode Sateda) however, the author had Sheppard telling Teyla this incredibly long detailed story about his mother, father, brother, etc... The author also writes that Sheppard only began thinking about joining the Air Force halfway through college, and then only because his Dad decides to stop paying for him. The reason is that Sheppard calls Dad's new girlfriend a bimbo and a few other not so nice words in public. Out of character IMO. The implication also being that Sheppard and his Dad had a great relationship until that point. (Episode Outcast tells us Dad had his life planned out for him since he was 14 and John couldn't wait to get away). But beside the fact that these stories don't ring true, they also in no way connect to or enhance the plot or outcome of the story. They are simply thrown in there for the amusement of the writer. And there's no way John would have just volunteered such detailed information to Teyla just because they were bored. Especially not in Season 2. As a fan fiction the story is well done, but to actually become a published novel, I think the story needs to stick closer to canon and not the whim of the author, I know this author has several new Atlantis novels coming out. I hope these will stay closer to the facts of the show. I don't mind speculation and background on characters, in fact I love seeing interaction and introspection, but it has to be believeable and agree with what we already know.

A Separated Team? Personal Histories? Its All Going On In This Stargate Novel...

Another good SGA-Novel to add to my collection.

Firmly set in Season 2 of the Successful Spin Off Show this is an Off-World Episode & literally Atlantis is featured in about 5% of the Story overall.

The Background Tales provided by Lorne, Radek, Ronan, Rodney, Teyla & John are welcome ones as they provide very clever details about each characters Personal History but at the same time they don't feel like they were necessary additions per say.

The main Story itself is a clever one if not a tiny bit predictable but the action was gripping as always, case in point I'm just finishing the Novel after a near enough full 24 Hours of constant Rain in the UK on the 3/10/20 just gone 2AM so this is another well deserved 4-Star Stargate Rating regardless of it keeping me up till the wee hours!

I thought this was a very enjoyable book, once I got it. I originally did not order it through Amazon and after three weeks of waiting when I knew they had it in stock, I cancelled and ordered it through Amazon. I will not make that mistake again! That said, I thought this was a very enjoyable book for me. I tend to find more hits than misses in the Atlantis books and this did not disappoint me. I wanted to make sure to read it before starting Homecoming. I thought the pairings of the team members was interesting. No shock with Shepherd and Teyla being together although with this being so soon with Ronon being on the team, as I think this would fit before the episode Trinity, I would have thought that Shepherd would have had Ronon with him and Teyla with Radek. But the pairings worked well and I found the stories to be interesting although some of what was said about Shepherd didn't seem to fit completely with what we know from the show. And kudos for having Lorne spend so much time involved. He is one of my favorite characters, so getting to read about him was a plus. Like someone else, I do enjoy stories where the team are together and a little more peril is needed but the story moved along well and did entertain. It will be read again for sure!

Die Story ist nicht schlecht: das Team ist mehr oder weniger auf einem Planeten gestrandet, auf dem die Wraith sich ganz gut eingelebt haben und zur Belustigung Menschen durch ein Fallen-Labyrinth schicken. Ich hatte beim Lesen schon Spaß obwohl ich paar Mal durch Unstimmigkeiten oder Zwischenstories aus dem Lesefluß rausgeworfen worden bin. Eine Top-Story ist es allerdings nicht, es gibt wichtige Punkte, die ungeklärt bleiben (die Wraith), Unstimmigkeiten (mit dem Planetenschild zum Beispiel) und sogar Fehler (beispielsweise wenn Rodney auf einmal über einen Cruiser redet, von dem er eigentlich noch nichts weiß). Das gefürchtete Labyrinth verliert auch seinen ganzen Charm sobald die Lichter angehen. Ein weiterer Nervfaktor waren für mich die unzählbaren Kurzgeschichten über die eigene Vergangenheit, die die Teammitglieder einander erzählen, obwohl ich zugeben muss, dass die letzten Stories mich dann doch interessierten. Wen das Zusammenspiel des gesamten Teams begeistert, wird womäglich nicht so viel Spaß an diesem Band haben denn das Team ist in Paare zersplittert und erst am Ende kommen alle zusammen. Rodney und Lorne sind eher langweilig (McKay braucht einfach Sheppard oder zumindest Zelenka um richtig Dampf abzulassen und so den Leser zu unterhalten, mit dem gutmütigen Lorne funktionierts nicht), Teyla und Sheppard sind das verletzte romantische Paar und bieten ebenfalls wenig Unterhaltung. Dafür hat aber die Autorin ein tolles Zusammenspiel zwischen Ronon und Radek kreiert, das war mein neues Dreamteam! Die Abschnitte über diese zwei haben mich sehr gut unterhalten und auch die Charaktere wurden sehr gut getroffen. Von den beiden hat man nach der Lektüre Lust auf mehr. Zusammenfassend: Mit besseren und schlechteren Parts ist das ein nettes Stargate-Abenteuer, aber auch nicht viel mehr.

This was a pretty good SGA book. A little slow, but good. There is some character background written in this book, and you can believe what you want, since the show writers never gave us any background details! Although some stories were very dull, I did enjoy Sheppard's. I would call this book a prequel to the SGA Legacy series. I read Legacy 1-6 before this set of books and it would have been good to read this one before Legacy. Not sure why the author called Ronon's dreadlocks braids though. Two completely different things.

I fully enjoyed this book! The way they intertwine each of the stories, from John, and his partner made their way across the open land to the city. The way they were treated and the stories they told to each other. The way the other teams from Atlantis traveled on their separate journeys and their

personnel story that they shared with each other. Their main goal was to find the first team and they a large planet to search. In the end the team were reunited a little bagged up, safe and sound.

As a die hard SGA fan I read every book that comes out, this one is in the middle as far as how much I enjoyed it. Not the worse, but not the best. Don't get me wrong it was a good book but it was a slow read. There are a lot of 'stories' told by characters that were interesting, they give incite to the character, but it tended to drag the book out. The story line was good but there wasn't as much action as I would have liked. Other then that it was a good read, well worth my time!

I gave 5 stars for this book because author Jo Graham has written a very fast paced environment for the reader and has conveyed a story of the Atlantis Team on yet another adventure on an alien planet of people whom they have befriended against the Wraith .

The plot of this book and the way it is written are worthy of 5 stars. It was interesting and I enjoyed. However I gave it 3 stars because the excessive back stories told by the characters point of view were annoying. Not to mention that some of the back story just did not fit with the characters and in Sheppard's case seemed unbelievable. I thought the author took some liberties with his back story and I was disappointed. But the overall book was very good if you can get past the characters telling their back stories too often.
