This was a good story. I got annoyed with it a couple of times but I kept on and it was quite a ride. The little girl Hannah was creepy. I really didn't like her which confused me. She should be a sympathetic character right? But no. Jasmine was odd too. It was crazy. The ending left me feeling unsettled. I don't want to spoil anything because it has some twists that really surprised me. Some I guessed. But it was still good.

Took a while to relate to switches of characters.. Somehow it keeps drawing you back when you decide to stop reading. Clever, extreme, thought provoking book . Great insight into the human psyche.

I love a good thriller but am often reading highly rated thrillers that are poorly written, and focus on a “gotcha” twist. This book kept me drawn in from start to finish, and while the ending has a bit of the typical thriller cliche twist, I still found it very creative and fun to read. As someone who relies heavily on reviews to pick my next book, I’d say this one is definitely worth reading.

Dear Child By Romy Hausmann

Another one that has been on my Kindle for some time. The title alone drew me in, and the book didn’t disappoint.

A disturbing storyline that kept you guessing, it slowly unravelled the truth as time went along, developing an even darker truth to the people that were held captive. There was little “truth bombs” dropped along the way as well.

It was consistently faced paced, with multiple points of view. If you are reading on Kindle don’t worry about it saying 3hrs until the next chapter as it is sectioned by names not technical chapters, you can easily dip in and out between your real life demands. 😉

I really enjoyed how this book looked back on each character dealing with Lena and the children’s captivity as well as dealing with their present.

My only small criticism was for the first bit of the book I was struggling to work out who was who, especially as there was a name change at one point (no spoilers.) I had to keep a check on who was speaking and remember who they were. I didn’t guess the who abductor was, and if you have read this and did guess, I’d like to know how. 😂

From my booksta account @lifeonasofa. I would give this book a 3.5, if found it a very easy book to read. Especially the last 1/3 or so, I read it in one sitting. I really enjoyed how the author kept me guessing until the last minute. I genuinely didn’t have a clue what was happening for the longest time.

I may have read too many similar thrillers for this to get a higher rating from me. I think the big thing is that I just didn’t care for any of the characters. At all. And there seemed to be so much going on that all kinda exploded in the last few chapters. And it was all too much.

A lot of the reveals went actually that great. Because of the amount of info throughout, I kinda forgot about certain facts. I was also left with a couple of questions unanswered. It just seemed like a lot all in one go but I didn’t care at the same time?

I will say, I enjoyed the last part about Lena, it was very beautiful. It’s a great book for any thriller reader who wants a ‘trapped’ fiction book. For me, I’ve read better, or maybe just saw it all coming?

Dark and engrossing page-turner

This is a dark and occasionally unsettling tale, made more so by the device of using multiple viewpoints, some of whom are unreliable narrators, so we’re never really sure whether we can trust the information we’re being given. The writing also has an ‘otherworldly’ quality to it, which gives a story a slightly distorted feel, heightens the tension and keeps us guessing. For most of its length, the author takes a very original approach to the story-telling, so it’s a bit of shame she falls on familiar tropes when it comes to the denouement. The epilogue helps wrap up any loose ends, though I admit I had to read it a couple of times to make sure I understood it fully.

I enjoyed this book enough that I read it in only a few days. However, I just didn't feel that it lived up to the hype. Lots of interesting twists were thrown in but they fizzled out with no real explanation, such as Hannah recognizing her grandfather and the ex boyfriends sudden appearance and relevance to the story.
I also felt like the connections the characters had to each other could have been stronger are more compelling.

If you're looking for a fast paced, dark thriller novel then it's definitely worth a read, regardless of my opinion.

This book was soooo good! I really enjoyed the pacing of the book and the cliffhangers and twists, I could not stop reading it! I was a little worried at first bc of the cover- it was so similar to a different well known book and I was afraid it might not be very original. However I genuinely found it really entertaining. I was really impressed with the handling of PTSD in the various characters, it seemed very authentically described. Some of the thoughts and feelings expressed by the characters I thought were really insightful and I found it impressive just how well the writer wrote from the various points of view. Most exciting book I’ve read in a while, outside of “The Drowning Kind” by Jennifer McMahon (another page turner I could not put down!) I can’t wait to see what else this author has up her sleeve bc this was a really, really good start!
