The plot is quite spellbinding as from the very beginning, even if I would have liked to see something more of the "old" Jacob in order to appreciate the gap between the before surgery /after surgery better. Anyway, I've loved the plot and most of the dialogues, never boring and pretty close to a certain kind of social environment. Totally recommended, you won't be disappointed.

Obviously well researched and an interesting topic but why were the women portrayed are so weak and submissive to men? A mother covering up for a son’s violence and rape is unforgivable. Violence against women will never end, or even be reduced, if women don’t support each other even when the choices are tough.
Any woman experiencing violence can contact the police and Women’s Aid for advice and help in removing the violent person. Never think you have ton”put up” with controlling behaviour or violence, there is always a solution and the first step is to speak to someone outside the situation.

I’ve had this book sitting on my shelf for a long time, and the silver lining of the lockdown has meant I’ve finally shifted through my piles and discovered some “real finds”. The Darkness Within is a story that instantly grabs you and holds onto you until the final page… it has the WOW factor and I highly recommend psychological thriller lovers to grab this book, if they haven’t already.

In this story, Stone explores the subject of cellular memory with terrifying consequences…

When Jacob Wilson; the son of a Reverend, finally gets the call from the hospital that they’ve found a viable heart, everyone is over the moon that the young, kind and sweet Jacob has been given the chance to live. His father and mother thank God for listening to their prayers.

Except the miracle has turned into a living nightmare. Jacob wakes up as a new man… and not a very nice one. As the days go by his behaviour becomes even more volatile and crude. The doctors say it’s nothing to worry about and only a common side effect of a long and difficult transplant surgery. His mother thinks differently. His girlfriend knows Jacob is no longer the man she fell in love with.

He’s a monster.

With the doctors dismissing the idea that his new heart could be changing his personality, and her husband continuing to not face the truth, it’s up to Elizabeth to trust her instincts and explore the option that the heart inside her son is from a very bad man.

Meanwhile a parallel story develops and as the two stories combine with catastrophic effects, it’s a race against the clock to save others and the son they used to love…

The concept of this plot instantly piqued my interest, how much can a person’s behaviour be transferred to another person through an organ?

As the reader, you’ve met the previous owner of the heart in the first few chapters and I could only sit at the edge of my seat throughout turning the pages, to discover how much of his character Stone would release into Jacob. I was terrified!

It’s one of those stories that will make you feel uncomfortable, it will have you screaming at the other characters to see the true reality of the situation they are in, and you won’t be able to put the book down until the final page as the pace is unbelievably fast and absorbing.

I am pretty sure this is the first book I’ve read by Lisa Stone/Cathy Glass and I’ll be adding more to my TBR very soon because her ability to delve into the deepest and darkest thoughts of her characters created a bond with me; as the reader, which was unbreakable throughout.

You all know I love psychological thrillers, and it’s hard to stand out in this genre as more authors break in to it, but this book is a STAND OUT book, it’s a psychological thriller with a twist. It will have you questioning not only the characters but the subject matter.

Gripping just doesn’t even seem to cover the effect this book had on me.

The crude language is not necessary

This book was a mixed bag for me. After discovering the author’s foster parenting true books (under pen name Cathy Glass) which I adored, I was taken aback by this book. The language is often crude and explicit, in an unnecessary and unfortunate way. This is disconcerting from a writer who has built her career on fostering children. I also didn’t like so much of the story being told from the villain’s point of view. He is extremely disturbing and I didn’t want to be inside him seeing the world from his vantage point. However there is a compelling story here and some compelling characters, especially the villain’s mother. It kept my interest but at some points I was disgusted and almost stopped reading. The author is a good storyteller and I wish she had edited this book a bit to remove the explicit language. There are better ways to describe what happens without needing to go there. Especially when I have put my trust into her because of her other books. She has not kept the two pen names separate but freely advertises the Lisa Stone books under her other name. I love detective novels and psychological thrillers, but the ones I read don’t use crude language as if writing a porn story.

I read this book very quickly because I thought the plot so interesting. Doesn't everyone wonder exactly what is transplanted during a heart transplant? Just the heart - or is there more? Do cells really trap emotions, personality? And do these traits enter a new body intact? I enjoyed the trip this book took me on. It made me hope and wonder and I looked forward to picking it up every time I had to put it down. And the ending! I won't spoil it for you but I loved it.

Brilliant Thriller a good read alongth it was a little bit predictable

Grab this at the bargain £1 price. And for the price was a brilliant read.
The book starts by introducing us to Shane and his bad evil life (involved in a abuse relationship with his girlfriend Rosie) who is then shortly killed off in a car accident, which then gears us up for the main story.
Shane heart is then transferred to Jacob who needs a heart transplant. Then the story fellows Jacob who's personality starts to change following the transplant, which doesn't go unnoticed by his mother (has it anything to do with Shane bad heart?).
While his mother comes to terms with what is happening with her son and what the real reason is behind his sudden change, we see Jacob as he starts buying drugs, is after buying a car (after failing to get to credit for, how far is he going to go to get one) who then finally crosses paths with Rosie (aka Shane girlfriend).
The rest of the story is very predictable, however this does not stop you from reading right to the end to see how bad Jacob will go and to see if there is a way to rescue him.
So overall a very good read which had me on edge right to the very end. I likely to look at the authors other works after fully enjoying this.

I have read all Cathy Class's book's and really enjoyed them all.
Now Cathy has written a completely different type of book, which I have really enjoyed, well done Lisa Stone, l can't wait to read her next book.
