L'autore

K.C. Turner grew up in the small coastal town of Sandusky, Ohio, which was the inspiration for the backdrop of her novel, Strong Motive. Always wanting to be a writer, she attended Bowling Green State University majoring in Creative Writing. Unfortunately, after many people advised she would be nothing more than a “starving artist” for the rest of her life, she dropped out. She later returned to school and after ten long years in the legal field she decided to give freelance writing a go. Her resume consisted of writing web content for private clients and a weekly column with the local newspaper. Though freelancing was fun, it was short lived. She decided it was time to expand upon the characters she created (while writing legal briefs for the county prosecutor) and pursue her dream of writing what she fancied most. Turner is currently working on her second book in the Elizabeth Strong Series. This was like the curate's egg, good in parts. I liked the main character, but was less keen on her pal, China. I can forgive the odd typo, but just as I thought the story was coming to a logical conclusion, there was the inevitable cliffhanger. Another forty pages and the whole thing could have been tied in a neat bow, If it had, I'd be more inclined to follow the series, but how many more cliffhangers are there to come?

This is book one of the Elizabeth Strong Mystery series and sees Liz working as a Court Advocate in Silverton, Ohio. She wants to help the women facing a similar predicament as she did in her past and save them from dangerous men. She managed to get away from her past and get her man sent to prison, but he is due out for parole soon and he vowed he would get justice for her traitorous behaviour. Her latest client is Michelle Gardner, the mayor’s daughter and married to a man with a lot of influence and who runs a casino nearby, amongst other things. The husband is up on charges of domestic abuse and Liz helps Michelle put a protective order in place, not that she thinks it will have much effect! Her best friend China is also a Court Advocate and they work for the same woman, but she is not exactly the best example of relationships with men, preferring one night stands and messing about with married men. Whilst Liz manages her past with Valium and alcohol.
Her latest client makes for a convoluted case, with apparent danger from the abusive husband and his girlfriend on the side, but somehow with connections to Liz’s past boyfriend who is still in prison. Someone is stalking Liz and making threats on her life, which she believes will go away once her case with Michelle is settled. A Detective Angel Martinez is assigned the case when her house is broken into and her car ran off the road. Everything points to her client being the possible victim of a murder for hire case and the evidence is all pointing towards Michelle’s husband, who is rich and well connected, with a far reach. A warning to back off, or something much more underhand going on, leaves Martinez needing to figure it out before Liz is placed in any more danger. A prisoner with links to one of the stalkers and a woman from her past, ;eaves more questions than answers, as to who the real murder target is and what is really going on, as it certainly isn’t anything liked what it seems! I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

This book was full of ridiculous descriptions and spelling errors/typos. Too many to highlight. Obviously proof reading was non existent. It actually read like a poor translation at times.
