Brilliant addition to the series!

This is a favourite series of mine but I have to say that Woman In The Water is one of the best additions to it so far! It’s very dark and shocking with an intriguing storyline that had an unexpected twist to it. I love the way Katerina Diamond balances the criminal element of her books with the personal lives of her characters. Adrian and Imogen have quite a backstory now but there was a comfortable atmosphere here in this sixth outing for them that felt relaxed and familiar…this is until the case of the woman in the water. When Adrian rescues a half dead woman from a freezing river he finds himself splashed all over social media. Finding a dead body further upstream means that they are now looking for a murderer and the unknown woman is the only one that can help them to solve the crime. Unfortunately, she disappears from her hospital bed before they have chance to question her further. So who is this mystery woman and how is she connected to the murder victim? Searching for the answers will put Adrian and Imogen in far more danger than they have ever faced before…

This case was one of the most disturbing that Adrian and Imogen have ever had to work on. I followed the plot thinking that I knew in which direction the author was heading but there was so much more to the case than I had been expecting. And I found myself far more emotional as well when, in an often difficult to read scene, one of the characters has to go through an unthinkable ordeal. This was a hard hitting and unexpected twist that had me gasping in horror at the rawness of the reactions of the people involved. It really did add a very different perspective to a crime that isn’t written or talked about often but beware as it really doesn’t pull any punches.

I raced through Woman In The Water, craving answers to all the questions I had. And that ending!! It just left me desperate for more Miles and Grey so I hope there is still more to come from them. I love this series and the relationship between the two main characters is constantly evolving, keeping it fresh and exciting.

Woman in the Water is highly recommended by me.

I have read all of Katerina Diamond's Books and they never disappoint. Her characters are always believable and her perpetrators always vile. She twists and turns the narrative making you desperate to keep reading and as usual it took about a day for me to get through it as I didn't want to stop. I would also like to congratulate her on her handling of an extremely under reported and even less understood type of crime which one of her main characters goes through. I felt she handled it with respect for victims and has brought to the fore something that most people would rather believe doesn't happen. Really, well done. Please read these books, it is best to start at the beginning to go on the journey with her characters but they can be read on their own. She gives the right mix of police procedure and doesn't Bog you down with too much detail but still keeps it interesting. The chapters are short and the writing style easy going, even if the subject matter isn't. Now I'm going to have to start again whilst waiting for the next one!

Read a few of this authors novels so must have enjoyed them enough to purchase this one.
I thought the story was good up to a point. There was a very shocking part that actually gave me palpitations I was so angry for the victim. If you read this novel you will know which part I mean. I feel the story has been left open to pursue some wrongs that need to be put right in the next novel probably.
The thing that stops me giving it 5 stars was I felt that it was a little disjointed and repetitive in places. But well worth a read.

Sixth in a series. Newcomers need not worry. This works well enough on its own.

Detective Sergeants Adrian Mills and Imogen Grey are trying to keep their romance secret, mindful it may lead to one of them being transferred. When Adrian saves the life of a woman found in water, Imogen worries he is becoming too involved. He, at times "an unpredictable variable", is taking her plight too personally. Truly memory lost or circumstances requiring urgent attention? Great danger awaits, Imogen with every reason to be worried.

For quite a while this seemed just another murder mystery, but a totally unexpected and disturbing event made everything more meaningful. Ahead, a psychological insight into what it is like to be the victim of action most harrowing. Katerina Diamond learned much from such victims, her portrayal of the intense emotions resulting ringing true.

Overall reactions are mixed. Some may feel the villain too much of a caricature - he believing himself above the law, able to bend all, including the police, to his will. (A main reason to read on is the hope he receives his comeuppance, preferably in the most horrible way possible.) Some may have reservations about the value of the woman's italicized contributions. Do they offer much that is new or simply slow down the pace? She may also forfeit much sympathy, her attitude constantly hindering progress on the case.

In short? An interesting read, especially after veering off in an unexpected direction.

This is the first book I have read by Katherine Diamond. I was attracted by the rave reviews and extensive marketing and wanted a holiday read that was not too heavy. This is certainly not too taxing to read and I found I was rattling through the short chapters vivaciously. The subject matter of this book is not pleasant. You may well say something along the lines of "what do you expect from a crime thriller?", no spoilers from me but this is particularly grizzly and depraved. The characters are strong and there are a couple of genuine twists that are the stand out feature of this story. Four stars.
