One of the things I love the best about this author's work is the variety. She is an experienced author and has been writing since 1998 so her writing style has changed and matured as all writers do. My favourite is "The Making of Us" which I thought was one of the best books I've ever read. This one wasn't quite up to that standard, but still had the power to draw me in and keep me turning the pages to find out how they got together in the end. I think it was a given that they would. I would have liked to have seen the couple together at the end of the book instead of only when they were very young, but the author has written her book and will have good reasons for ending it when she did. There were some scenes which had me howling with laughter. Maybe inappropriately, I don't know. When Vince's mother was giving birth, making noises like a horse that is about to be shot, it was a beautiful moment but the way Lisa Jewell describes it was hilarious. She is an accomplished writer and whenever I read one of her books I know I am in for a treat, this one included. I'm just grateful she's written so many books as I still have hours of reading pleasure ahead of me.

I loved this story from the start as the characters were well-rounded and the dialogue was believable. Vince and Joy were both sweet, gentle people who were patently made for each other but Lisa Jewell was able to deftly describe their relationships with other people; she was able to show that sometimes, even with the best of intentions, some partnerships don’t work simply because of basic characteristics that are too different. I am a massive fan of this writer. I love her style and the way she makes weaving a wonderful tale such as this look so easy.

Anything she writes becomes real. Her characters are flawed, damaged and perfect . They visit Tesco, shop at lildl, and eat chips. I was rooting for Vince and joy all the way through. They were both so nice, and stupid in their choices. Goodness knows how I got to the end.

I first read this book when I borrowed it from the library (I know !) and it became one of my favorite books . I then became a huge Lisa Jewell fan and have read every book she has written. I was a reluctant to re read this in case it didn't live up to the memory, I needn't have worried..this book is brilliantly written and still remains one of my favourites. I'm going to re read some more ! Thoroughly recommend .

I got this book from Amazon looking for a good read to entertain me during my vacation.

After two years of postgraduate full-time education, I finally had a break and was looking for something light and entertaining and I found Vince and Joy. Reading the recommendations posted on Amazon, I took a leap of faith and purchased this book.

Although somewhat predictable, this book is well written and a very good read. It is entertaining, fun and sad in some parts. It's one of those books where you wish you were there to shout at some of the characters from time to time.

The differences in time is also very entertaining making this more than just a novel but a bit of a fictional 'memoire' resulting in a very gripping read. Although not of those classical novels that should appear on a bucket-list, this is an easy book to read with a refreshing presentation. I loved it and would probably read it again.
