The recipes seem far removed from over fancy restaurant cooking, they shout home and love and nourish to me. Every dish and every ingredient is within reach of the home cook. I feel I want to cook and eat my way through everything.
The photographs are beautiful - I especially love the kitchens and the writing is exceptional. If you cook, would like to cook or simply like food don't miss this wonderful book.

The recipes in Gill's second book, Time, are wonderful with simple ingredients cooked well and with care. The book is split first into times of meals, Morning, Day and Night, and then further spilt into seasons, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Each recipe gives a wonderful seasonal treat from soups to terrines to hearty meals that make the best of each seasons best ingredients. None of the recipes require bizarre ingredients that you need to search every store to find but instead rely on traditional ingredients that are carefully cooked to bring out the best they have to offer.
All of the dishes are supported by beautiful photographs alongside many more images to support the themes in the book. This is beyond doubt a beautiful cookery book that I long to read and to reference and, unusually for me, one I will be following to the letter and slowly working my way through such is the strength of the recipes.
I whole heartedly recommend this book.

I am a home cook, in the countryside, where I even grow some of my veg, fruit & herbs, I enjoy weekend cooking, when I can relax in my kitchen a bit more and try new ways with familiar ingredients, preparing meals for my family or friends, who luckily don't question my skills, but appreciate a satisfying dish, I am not super experimental, I prefer to hold on to a simple reliable advice, I like both lighter and heartier meals, I embrace the changes in seasons and adapt to them in the way I cook and eat - this book will soon get dog ears, very probably bear marks of my foodie fingerprints, and definitely show many of my colourful sticky index tabs.




Looks too much like an instagram feed mixed with a book version of ‘country homes & interiors” magazine. The recipes seem to get lost in there somewhere.
Thankfully recipes have been toned down from his last book ‘Gather’ which is..... good but it’s still not going to be a ‘go to’ book at 6pm on a Tuesday for supper inspiration unlike say a Nigella or Nigel.
Anyway will persevere!
