André Previn - Tchaikovsky: The Ballets (Swan Lake, Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty)(6CD) Tchaikovsky's three sumptuous ballet scores are also three of his supreme masterpieces, as remarkable for their emotional content as for the beauty of their melodies and orchestration. André Previn, who has described himself as "a complete romantic", became Principal Conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra in 1968. He remained in the role for 11 years - something of a golden era - and in 2016 was named the LSO's Conductor Emeritus.

At last all three Previn ballets in the latest remastered sound

Some repeats have been reinstated in Swan Lake and the two missing numbers in The Sleeping Beauty, removed so the ballet could be issued on two CDs, have also been reinstated.

The layouts are ideal with no breaks in any of the Acts.

Original covers are used inside the box for the CDs and the price is a bargain.

As to the performances, for me only Rozhdestvensky has the edge in all the ballets,( the Sleeping Beauty being the original studio BBC complete version, not the live one recorded around the same time.) Nevertheless there is not much in it and this set should be snapped up.

I am very pleased with the box set of ballet music. I only wanted the music to Swan Lake and did not read the description of what I was buying properly, so when the CDs arrived, I was very surprised to have two other ballets also. This is a bit of a bonus as I was only expecting Swan Lake, but I am looking forward to listening to the other two now.

Having the ballets on separate discs I could not believe it when I saw that that Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty had been restored to their original length and remastered as well.If you love the music of the Tchaik you will fall in love with these and at the price they are the bargain of a lifetime.
Since this review they have been reissued on vinyl, I for one will be getting them.

Extra care when removing a disc from the packaging.

A superb reproduction. But I am disappointed that the disc's holder's are way too tight so to remove a disc from the packaging, one has to carefully tear it for removal otherwise they will be there till the end of time.
