This is my review after using this laptop for nearly 10 months.
1) Build quality: Surely doesn't blow your mind but it has been quite good and can whitstand a little bit of rough usage too. I have noticed that the right button of the touch pad has slightly become harder to press. I likede the texture on the top panel and gives it a premium touch. It also takes some effort to keep the laptop dust free and easier for the dust to seep in through keyboard and trackpad.
2) Design: Though it doesn't exude the gamer vibe (if you are in that category), it's a standard design and there aren't any over the top elements. You don't have to worry taking this to some formal meetings as there aren't much fluorescent accents or characteristic lines here, unlike it's closest rival, The Asus FX505DY. It is pretty conservative in this aspect.
3) Weight: Although it isn't heavy as it's bigger brothers from the Predator lineup, you can feel the laptop, especially with the power adapter. Laptop alone is around 2.2 KGs and with power brick it's almost 2.7 KGs.
4)Screen quality: Screen is nothing to write home about but a fairly decent one provided. It doesn't support G-sync and the refresh rate too is just 60 Hz. The one good thing is it's a matte finish screen , so using it at night or in bright environments won't be am issue. The screen brightness is low though.
5) Battery: Probably the weakest point about this laptop. With the 48Wh cell, expect this to realistically last around 3-3.5 hrs. Major contribution is by the poor thermal dissipation. So it's better undervolt using Intel Extreme Utility Tuning (For *Intel* models). The charger provided is a 135 watt brick and it charges the laptop from 25-100 in about 2H 15Mins
6) Performance: This can be subjected to your specification but the model i have is the i5 8300H with GTX 1050ti graphics (4Gb). It could do a lot of tasks at ease and can easily play Titles from 2015-16 in mixed settings. However, as stated earlier the heat dissipation is poorly done. Hence it cam throttle much earlier than expected, which makes it difficult to execute extreme CPuU intensive tasks.
This model also comes with HDD storage or in Hybrid config with optional optane memory. Would recommend to choose the hybrid over HDD only model as it's slow for a laptop for its class. The RAM is also decent with upgrade possible photo 32 gigs.
7) Keyboard: The Nitro 5 has a pretty good keyboard with backlighting. It pretty much does the job, as long as you dont rush through the a document which is being typed, where the keys can miss the stroke. Also unlike the newer model, it's backlighting intensity cant be changed and only lasts till about 25 secs after the previous keyboard stroke. Also the track pad area is quite small, that can be quite annoying when playing some engaging shooter games or even just scrolling through browser.
Though this model is quite old and wouldnt be recommended anymore, it's quite a good deal if you manage to pick one during sales. They mostly can cost 20-25k cheaper than original price. Also a good choice for atleast 5 yr long usage.
