Della Van Hise is a native of Florida, transplanted to California at the age of 21, who has subsequently sunk her roots in the high desert near Joshua Tree National Park. She has not personally seen any aliens since 1992, but there is rumored to be a secret UFO base underneath her house. Her first professional novel was best-selling Killing Time - the controversial Star Trek novel which was recalled and re-edited in 1984. More recently, Della has written extensively in the non-fiction genre, with titles such as Quantum Shaman (Diary of a Nagual Woman), Into the Infinite and Questions Along the Way. The Quantum Shaman series focuses heavily on the author's metaphysical explorations and experiences. If you enjoyed the works of Carlos Castaneda or Don Miguel Ruiz, you'll enjoy the non-fiction works of Della Van Hise. In addition, Della has written professionally for Tomorrow Magazine and other prominent science fiction publications. Too much monologue

This book had the capacity to be good but it just wasn’t because there was too much monologue from Stephan’s thoughts and it rambled on for forever about statements that didn’t make a lick of sense. Plus Miquel murdered Stephan’s 13 year old daughter during sex and he falls in love with him anyway? Seems way too far fetched. This is a horrible book!

This is what I would call a " Philosophical Horror Story ". Della Van Hise is a fascinatiing writer. She can write a story that turns your mind inside out , upside down, and bends it into impossible angles. This one makes your toes curl up.It is imaginative and beautifully written.
If you believe in the existence of Vampyres, if you believe that they live in the dark places of our world just below the radar of our consiousness , then you are going to love this story.
According to Christian belief, Jesus at his most desperate time, on the eve of his crucifixtion was tempted by the Devil and offered eternal life, riches , power if he would join him. Jesus declined the offer.
Meet Stefan London. A mere mortal. A grieving father at a most vulnerable time in his life. He accepts that same offer.
He gets to live his eternal life as a Vampyre. A bit more than he bargained for at first.
Della has written the story of Stefan's passage from " baby " Vampyre to his maturity with sympathy and understanding of the terror, disbelief and horrifying knowledge that Stefan feels at the beginning to the final acceptance of who he has become.
She creates a Vampyre society which in some ways is not too different from our own. Many of our mortal society's illnesses plague them as well. There is. hate, lust,sex, killing, envy, and violence.There is also love, trust, adoration, compassion , the desire to expand one's knowledge and live life to the fullest. To be all that you can be.
The neverending quest for the meaning of life apparently is a journey that even Vampyres undertake. For them it is truly " never ending ."
I wondered at times as I read this book whether Della was a showing us a dark world which in effect is the mirror of our own souls .
You will have to put this book down occasionally, and just think about it. Then again, that is probably why she wrote it.
It is a great read whether you believe in Vampyres or not. Enjoy it !

This book is exquisite. Read it with the heart. There is more truth in this "fiction" than can ever be explained in a review. I ached when I read this. This book opened me wide.

I loved this book! Philosophical with out being preachy. Intimate, sensitive and sexy. This isn't trashy porn. Very well written and imaginative. Can make you think if you want. Inspired. I'd like to see a follow up book. Thanks Della.
