Rome is at war, with itself.

A tale of espionage, involving Mark Antony, Cleopatra, Octavian and a cast of thousands, culminating in the historical sea battle of Actium. An event where the increasingly "unhinged" Mark Antony employed irrational battle tactics and lost his fleet. This catastrophe (for Antony) ended decades of Roman civil war and foreshadowed the eventual suicide of both himself and Cleopatra. Leading up to this momentous event we had the fictionalized tale of a Greek merchant and his friends spying for Rome and extracting revenge on their enemies amongst Antony's retinue. This was an exciting tale, based on real historical events, and told with style and panache. A great read!

What I really like about Sea of Flames is the unpredictability in a story that has a predictable outcome for those who have read or watched the story of Antony & Cleopatra. From the outset, with the unjust murder of a Greek trader, we are led into the intricacies that culminate with the Battle of Actium. But no one should assume they know how it ends even if they have studied this clash of navies in the struggle for world domination. Throughout, there are startling scenes that surprise, heart-in-mouth spying missions and torture, defections and courageous naval manoeuvres. And of course, a love interest. Quite the adventure, and well-written too.

Couldn't put it down .really enjoyed the story line historical fiction action and humour well worth picking up and and settling in to your favourite chair.
