Marianne has a life others dream of. A beautiful townhouse on the best street in the neighbourhood. Three bright children who are her pride and joy.

A right riveting read!!

Absolutely loved this book, couldn't put it down. An intense believable story that draws the reader in from page one.

The story follows the lives of a couple who on the surface appear to have it all but as the story unfolds it becomes clear there is something sinister and troubling lurking below the surface.

Whilst being drawn in to the lies and paranoia as it unfolds there are some brilliant laugh out loud moments which a totally jealous wife can easily identify with.

A really good read and look forward to another book written by Sue in the thriller genre!!

Apparently the author wanted to write something darker, something other than the romances she has before. Well, maybe one day she will....
This is very poor. To me it read like a soap opera script, and not a good soap opera, this is Hollyoaks standard writing. It contains wafer thin characters, caricatures really, templates for a brutal husband, a damaged wife and there empty life. You get better description of there home and decor than you do of the people. The film Gaslight is mentioned, really? You are comparing this to a classic like Gaslight?
The first half is very hard going, detailing the abuse, the second half which deals with the repercussions is the more interesting. But it is all told from the wrong perspective, the husband is the interesting creation not the wife.
A brilliant twist, really? The only surprising thing about this is the positive reviews it seems to have...
A vanity project that you have read before, don't be fooled this is middle-class problems trying to be more serious.

At the start of the book, Simon's mum had died and left him money. A few pages later, the family had an awkward tea with his mother and two pages after that his mother was dead again! Also, Marianne in one page said she'd been up at 3 baking bread, in another page it was 6 am. Worst book I've ever read. Did the publisher proof read ?

It's awful. Ghastly characters, who are almost caricatures. Charming Simon hiding a brutal sadistic persona. Flaky, shallow, stupid Marianne. OK, she had a tough childhood and lost her baby, so why isn't she a deeper character instead of yapping on about her Farrow and Ball paint and designer kitchen? And using 'like' instead of 'as if' is a grammatical no-no. When Marianne finally 'grows a pair' things get a bit better, but given her past behaviour it's hard to believe in the transformation. The twist at the end was totally predictable. I shan't read any more by this author

Another brilliant Book By Sue Watson

Woah! Utterly captivating and I couldn't put it down!!

Marianne has the perfect life, a handsome and successful heart surgeon as a husband, a beautiful house and 3 gorgeous children, but is life all it seems? Scratch beneath the surface and things aren't as perfect as they seem.

I found the first half of this book rather hard going, not because I didn't enjoy it, I struggled because the story was so tense and at times I didn't know whether what I was reading was real or in Mariannes' head (very well written by Watson). By the half way point I was so pleased to see that Marianne had found some courage from somewhere and started sticking up for herself and that's when the story began to gallop along at 100mph. I must admit I did figure out who the perp was before it was revealed so the twist didn't surprise me but figuring this out didn't ruin my enjoyment of the story.

This is my 4th book by Sue Watson and once again it did not disappoint. Highly recommended if you like Psychological thrillers. Read it you won't be disappointed.
