"The campaign for Lucy's Law has been smashing" PAUL O'GRADY
The true story of one little dog who helped bring an end to puppy farming in the UK.
Lucy, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, was born into a Welsh puppy farm in 2008. She was repeatedly bred to produce litters of cute puppies, who were taken from her shortly after birth to be sold online and transported many miles across the UK. Life on a puppy farm is grim, and the dogs aren't vaccinated, loved or looked after.
Rescued in 2013, Lucy's life turned around when she was chosen for adoption and rehabilitated by Lisa Garner, dog-lover extraordinaire. Lisa had shared her life with many dogs beforehand, but she recognised something extra special about little Lucy, and so their unique journey together began which would eventually change the world...

Dr Marc Abraham writes in an informal style that effortlessly draws the reader into his experiences & makes the book thoroughly accessible.
If you are familiar with the campaign for Lucy's Law you will absolutely enjoy tracking it's journey in detail as you read. But be aware that some chapters will understandably break your heart.
The thing I love most about the book is that it contains something for everyone. While it is primarily a book for dog lovers it is multi faceted.
Lucy's Law was a political campaign set out to improve the welfare of dogs & as such has political content that is necessary to explain the campaigns journey. But it doesn't ever overwhelm or distract from the purpose of the campaign which was to make a better corner of the world for dogs.
It has historic quality because of it's groundbreaking journey into parliament & law. I would totally recommend this book to young people of the right age with an interest in animal welfare, politics, sociology & history.
Lucy's law was a grassroots campaign & as such the book offers hope & direction to those among us who see injustice in the world & have motivation to trigger change but don't know where to begin.
The book is punctuated with Dr Marc's life experiences & how those experiences equipped him with the resilience to keep on going. The author shares these experiences with humour & tenderness, sometimes sadness, each experience creating a connection with the reader & allowing us to see the human value in the campaign.
I am on my second reading & cannot recommend the book highly enough. If it isn't on your book shelf it needs to be. It's without doubt in my top ten books of all time. Quite different in EVERY way but nonetheless right there nestled between Conan Doyle & John Updike.

This book tell us about the way puppies used to be allowed to be bred in atrocious conditions and how they were sold on by third parties. It is the Story of Lucy. The story of a little dog who changed the world,. If you are an animal lover then you will be greatly moved as I was and it is a truly "roller coaster read " The book goes into great detail on who and how a team of individuals faced the mountain of legislation and red tape to outlaw Puppy Farms,
