Well-written with characters that develop. A amount of mystery. Great heroines. Dark, brooding and sexy hero. Nice mixture of fae and normal world culture.

C.N. Crawoford does it again!

While the competition aspect of the story is something we often see with our dramatic fae royals, C.N. Crawford managed to breathe fresh air into this trope and make something new and addicting out of it, and the merit goes especially to the book’s wonderful cast of characters. I was sold from the first time Ava and Torin interacted. The banter, tension and chemistry made the pages fly. And the thing is, you can’t not root for them to be together, but giving in could prove fatal for Ava…oh the agony!

This book also introduces a very fascinating worldbuilding that will undoubtedly grow with the rest of the series. I’m very curious to see how the story continues, especially after that ending! I’ll know no rest until I see this curse through.

I recommend this to lovers of fae, arranged marriage/fake dating-ish types of stories, and curses! I mean, who doesn’t love a cursed king?

4,0 su 5 stelle A fantasy treat for fans of the fake dating trope!

FROST is such a treat for fans of fae, cursed princes, arranged marriages and the fake dating trope. These are some of my favorite, and the way they came together in this book was an absolute delight!

This is an excellent choice for a binge read. The pacing was excellent, with just the right amount of action and character interactions to keep the pages flowing. When I tell you that I was holding my breath for every interaction between the protagonists, Ava and Torin, I am not lying to you. I read most of the book in a day because I was gobbling down every interaction! I wouldn’t say it’s a classic hate-to-love, but there’s definitely enough antagonistic banter to keep their interactions sharp and entertaining. However, my favorite moments had to be the ones where all that banter became tension because the angst was exquisite! So much chemistry in this couple, I think they’ve become my new C.N. Crawford favorites.

Another aspect I really enjoyed about this book was the world-building, even though we only scratched the surface in this first book. However, what we get is enough to create a very interesting frame. We have curses, seelies and unseelies, unexpected rivalries and even mentions of dragons! There is so much to explore in the future books in the series, and I’m very excited for it all.

I once saw someone refer to these books as fantasy junk food, and I think it’s the perfect description for it. And I mean this in a good way. The Bachelor meets Hunger Games in this not-quite-spicy Romantasy, but we do have plenty of steam generated by the chemistry between Ava and Torin. He needs to wife someone real quick to make sure his kingdom is revived and thriving, but he can’t fall in love at any cost. For reasons. So why not pick a common Fae who he finds utterly distasteful for a fake marriage? Solid plan. Except…

This is a fairly quick read, but the pacing was a little off for me at the start, especially with their relationship development. However, as we went along and once I started seeing where this was going, it was off to the races and I couldn’t stop turning the pages. I know Torin is supposed to be this most eligible hottie, and he is, but he does feel like this out of touch Fae Prince that doesn’t realize what’s coming out of his mouth is ridiculous. But I do enjoy that he says the darnedest things, emphasizing the fact that the Fae really are wild beings. So maybe it was deliberate and that’s just how princely men are. 😂

I would’ve liked more rounds in the feral tournament of bachelorettes, but what we see is gloriously violent and entertaining. I would’ve liked a little more fleshing out of the world building and characters too, other than the MCs. Coz Shalini and Aeron are adorbs, but don’t get enough page time IMO. My favorite parts have to be Torin training with Ava, and the fan-self-worthy moments it leads to, and of course the ball dancing. There’s nothing quite like the leads sparring and holding blades to each others’ throats to get the blood pumping and endorphins rushing tbh. Especially as they fight those pesky “feelings” tooth and nail. With that jaw dropping ending and the repercussions it’s sure to have, I can’t wait to dive into the next one.

5,0 su 5 stelle un bon slow burn
Recensito in Francia 🇫🇷 il 9 marzo 2023

WARNING! Cliffhanger! This is a 4/5 on the trauma scale; you’ll want to have the next book lined up to find out what happens next, but it’s not deadly.

It’s her birthday when Ava discovers her boyfriend in the arms of another woman, and it’s the cause of the diatribe that she unleashes on Torin, the Seelie High King, when he enters the bar where she and her friend are drowning her sorrows.
Torin must find a bride, and he is convinced Ava is the best choice; because he can’t love his queen, but Fae needs one…

Ava is a strong character, with very little understanding of her Fae heritage, having been brought up as human. It has caused her to be strong out of necessity, and that is something that comes in handy as the book goes along.
Torin has suffered some terrible things, and not all are of his own making. He’s supposed to be the glue that holds the Fae together, and it’s a burden he has born alone from a young age.

This is a fast paced, contemporary fantasy, with some good characters, and a few not so good. For instance, I wanted Torin to rip Andrew apart on multiple occasions (he did offer!), and I would have loved to hear more about Aerin and Shalini.
The Fae were presented, unapologetically, as a brutal race; a refreshing difference from many other authors and true to the fairytales out there. They might appear human, but they most definitely are not.
I enjoyed the snippets of fairy lore, and the characterizations of the different types of Fae in the princesses and their actions.
The tale progresses well, and the main story arc is completed before the second arc hits at the end in all its book-hookish glory.
Ultimately, this is an enjoyable story beginning, with an intriguing sub-plot, interesting characters, and an exciting setting for it all.
An enthralling fantasy read for contemporary fantasy lovers.

This book definitely exceeded my expectations. When I first picked it up and read the short summary I wasn't sure how well I would get on with it. Turns out I couldn't be more wrong.

Frost is the first instalment of the Frost and Nectar series and let me say that you are in for a treat.
This book pretty much had some of my all time favourite tropes.

~ Enemies to lovers
~ Marriage of convenience
~Forced Proximity
~Sexual tension
~Rewarding slow burn

Also this whole The Bachelor meets The Hunger Games was a plot I never knew I needed!

Ava what a FMC, I really liked her POV and her character arc has been very enjoyable and I am excited to see what the next sequence will bring for her development.

Torin though, oh he stole the show.. He pretty much had my heart throughout the entire book. He absolutely deserves the world.

I would also like to give a huge shout out to Shalini. She was quite literally the epitome of best friends. And don't think for one second I didn't notice that connection between her and Aeron. Torin's well trusted guard!!

The world building was done nicely and the author definitely leaves room for development in the continuation.

Frost is a fast-paced, quick and easy, steamy read and I am already so attached to the characters and this plot. I am so excited to see where this story is going especially with those final few plot twists that was revealed towards the end!!

Great start to what I can already tell is going to be an addicting series.

Ava is a faerie, and she thought she had it all in her simple human life with her human boyfriend till that fateful day. But he proves otherwise. She is man-hating and a little drunk, but an announcement on the news captures her and her friends' attention as a tournament to be the King of the Fae's bride. Ava doesn't seem to care much, but she is surprised when he shows up at the bar. I love her backbone and sass.

Torin is more human than I thought as the Seelie King. He is kind and frosty but seems to have a heart under that royal magnetism. He appears to be cursed with something about being unable to fall in love and the magic, so the realm disappears without a Queen. Ah, so that's where the frost comes in. Oh crap, he seems to have a glorious idea, and I can't imagine it doesn't involve a certain commoner fae with sass. His concept leads to a fake deal and contract of convenience. I can't wait to see what happens next.

A tournament for the place of the Queen. King Torin may be cold and aloof, but he is brilliant. I like how he lays out the plan. Ava is in for quite the adjustment. This story gets dark as we experience the "fae way. " It's a little gruesome but definitely action-packed.

King Torin finds himself not so alone. Their proximity brings some revelations and chemistry for both of them. Ava finds pieces of her past. Will this evolve from enemies to lovers?

I love that we see a side of King Torin that is uncontrolled. However, the six princesses are a little freaky. Ava is the most normal Fae there. Their swordplay and tit-for-tat as the princesses and Ava fight for their place as the next Queen are action-packed.

Of course, the book ends there. Okay, so I expected that end, and the clues were there. However, the revelation is still unexpected, and I love how even the characters are surprised. I am absolutely intrigued and want to know where this story goes.

4,0 su 5 stelle interesting and different enemies attraction

Turin needs someone he can’t love to be his bride, so when he meets Ava the outspoken verbally hostile fae living her whole life with humans he believes he’s found the answer. He also has a problem he needs to solve. He’s been cursed and his whole kingdom is feeling the curse of never ending winter. He agrees to do a tournament to find his bride and offers Ava a bribe to enter and to win but he must make sure she survives. Ava is rebounding from finding the man she thought was her future husband in bed with another woman. She doesn’t believe in love, want love or even trust men. There is a physical attraction between them. But Ava still wants to solve the mystery of her birth. Who is Ava and how did she come to live in the human world? We know who she is at the very end of the book but it leads directly into the next book. This story is fun to read. The questions of Will they or won’t they are there. Ava’s feelings regarding Turin are skewed because of her negative feelings about herself and rejection from Andrew. Turin is falling in love which will cause his curse. He has to deal with his emotions. Time for book 2. Easy quick read. Feisty heroine, emotionally distant hero.
