You escaped. But he will never let you go.
Room meets Gone Girl in this page-turning thriller
A windowless shack in the woods. Lena's life and that of her two children follows the rules set by their captor, the father: meals, bathroom visits, study time are strictly scheduled and meticulously observed. He protects his family from the dangers lurking in the outside world and makes sure that his children will always have a mother to look after them.
One day Lena manages to flee - but the nightmare continues. It seems as if her tormentor wants to get back what belongs to him. And then there is the question whether she really is the woman called 'Lena', who disappeared without a trace over thirteen years ago. The police and Lena's family are all desperately trying to piece together a puzzle that doesn't quite seem to fit.

What is revealed in the storyline is abduction and the grim consequences of this crime. The abductor cannot be identified and there is a connection to a young woman, Lena, who disappeared some 13 years previously: a clever, twisty idea.
The characters are mainly interesting particularly Hannah, who has Asperger Syndrome and highlights the super qualities some of these suffers have.
Certainly an author to look out for and I would recommend this. Lost a star for disappointing finale.

I heard my local radio's bookclub raving about this book so rushed to purchase it and had great expectations. Great expectations unfortunately often lead me to being underwhelmed and underwhelmed I was. I just felt that the storyline was weak. "Twists" were thrown in but easily explained in the next narrative from a particular character so actually weren't twists at all. I didn't feel any sense of great empathy with any of the characters and like one other reviewer said, I just wanted to get to the end.
Early on, we're advised that Hannah has met her Grandfather before. The whole way through I was waiting to find out how this fit into the story. It's hastily explained right at the end. So the real Lena and Hannah visited the Grandfather? What? How does this make sense? How did the Grandfather not recognise Lena or Hannah especially when Hannah was so easily identifiable later on? If Lena could go on trips, parties and to Paris, why didn't she escape? Frustrating story!

Another one that has been on my Kindle for some time. The title alone drew me in, and the book didn’t disappoint.
A disturbing storyline that kept you guessing, it slowly unravelled the truth as time went along, developing an even darker truth to the people that were held captive. There was little “truth bombs” dropped along the way as well.
It was consistently faced paced, with multiple points of view. If you are reading on Kindle don’t worry about it saying 3hrs until the next chapter as it is sectioned by names not technical chapters, you can easily dip in and out between your real life demands. 😉
I really enjoyed how this book looked back on each character dealing with Lena and the children’s captivity as well as dealing with their present.
My only small criticism was for the first bit of the book I was struggling to work out who was who, especially as there was a name change at one point (no spoilers.) I had to keep a check on who was speaking and remember who they were. I didn’t guess the who abductor was, and if you have read this and did guess, I’d like to know how. 😂
Solid ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars

I may have read too many similar thrillers for this to get a higher rating from me. I think the big thing is that I just didn’t care for any of the characters. At all. And there seemed to be so much going on that all kinda exploded in the last few chapters. And it was all too much.
A lot of the reveals went actually that great. Because of the amount of info throughout, I kinda forgot about certain facts. I was also left with a couple of questions unanswered. It just seemed like a lot all in one go but I didn’t care at the same time?
I will say, I enjoyed the last part about Lena, it was very beautiful. It’s a great book for any thriller reader who wants a ‘trapped’ fiction book. For me, I’ve read better, or maybe just saw it all coming?

Is this a perfect book? No, it does require the suspension of disbelief. Is this a gripping novel? Well, for me at least - yes
