Enjoyed the story but ( spoilers ) something alluded to on page 163 concerning one character would surely have been 'known knowledge' to another character bearing in mind an ' incident' would have probably been mentioned in a newspaper which would have included an address re 'locality' but I'll let this go as one of the characters asked no questions about the address in question before arriving there. Think someone would say ' where are we going?' and most people would Google a property they are going on a break to rather than 'go with the flow' . Enjoy Daniel's writing style and looking forward to reading more of his work.
It wasn’t the worst book I have read but certainly wasn’t the best. I feel like the foundation for the book and characters were laid but the plot was rushed and I found myself not only knowing what was going to happen but bored.. I stuck with it because I’m generally not the type to leave a book half way through and I had hoped something exciting might have happened at the end that I hadn’t predicted .. unfortunately not.
The Break is a story of infidelity and the heartbreaking effects of the infidelity. When a husband or wife cheats they don't stop to count all the people who will be hurt. They don't expect to be found out. When Peter broke his wedding vows it never entered his mind the turmoil he was setting in motion. Even if he had stopped to think about it he never could have imagined what what would happen.
Eve is a mentally insecure, deranged woman who is set on making the married man, Peter, with whom her friend Leanne had an affair and his family pay for what they did that led to Leanne taking her life. Eve was in love with Leanne and though the feelings weren't reciprocated, when Leanne commits suicide because Pater opts to remain with his wife Karen and their boys, Eve using various aliases sets about her criminal intent. It matters not to her that innocent people will be hurt. She views them as collateral damage. Somewhat simplistic but nonetheless an easy and engrossing read. 4 stars.
This book was a well-written, quick read like all of Daniel Hurst’s books but it lacked mystery, suspense, and that thrilling quality and depth that most of Mr. Hurst’s books contain. Everything was pretty straightforward and there wasn’t that thrill of trying to figure out who the “bad“ guy was or what would happen next. It was a pretty straightforward book. He’s written many other books, which are much more suspenseful and thrilling, in my opinion.
Although it was a quick read as I previously stated and I enjoyed the book, it was more of what I like to term as a “popcorn” summer read to enjoy on the beach. A book that doesn’t require the reader to become too vested in the writing.
This has to be my least favorite of Mr. Hurst’s books that I’ve read thus far, which is why I gave it 3 stars. Generally his books warrant a minimum of a four score and the occasional 5. Not giving up on this author any time soon! Looking forward to reading many more books written by this author.
I've read 5 of your books and will continue to read the rest in this series. I'm retired and have enjoyed every word. Your have kept me captivated for hours. Thank you and continue to write. George Brewer
