Il devra s’occuper d’un hippopotame nain que le professeur Beham, ancien recteur de la faculté moribond, accueille provisoirement dans sa propriété de la périphérie de Vienne.

La fréquentation quotidienne du placide herbivore apaise quelque peu Julian. Mais lorsqu’il débute une liaison avec Aiko, la capricieuse fille du retraité, la vie semble lui réserver de nouveau des leçons.

Dans un style plaisant et fluide, l’auteur nous livre ici sa version du roman de formation. Arno Geiger observe avec acuité toute une époque, qui, face à la complexité contemporaine et une réalité envahissante, semble condamnée au grand flou.
